Managing Director, Boardwalk Tavern and Shearer’s Arms Tavern

Matt grew up in Sydney before cutting his teeth at his parent’s hotel in Toowoomba, Qld. Matt studied a Bachelor of Business (Economics / Marketing) and afterward took on a more hands on role at the family hotel. In 2006 Matt moved to Brisbane working for Lewis Land and McGuires Hotels until 2011 when he and Richie Malouf bought the Boardwalk Tavern. In late 2020 they partnered with Royal Hotels to purchase the Shearers Arms Tavern.

Both taverns have a strong focus on family, food and fun. The Boardwalk Tavern was the 2022 QHA Bistro of the Year and is a finalist again for 2023. The Shearers Arms is a nominee for Best Gaming Venue and has undergone a large renovation that now includes a state-of-the-art children’s playground.

Matt is the current Senior Vice President of the QHA and is privileged to assist the QHA continue its role in ensuring “the pub” remains a cornerstone of the social fabric of the community.
