Growing up in the family pub in Plainland, Mel went on to work at the iconic Royal Exchange (R.E.) Hotel in Toowong during her university years. Having completed a Bachelor of Business (Advertising/Marketing), Mel then worked in advertising for almost a decade, including ad agency Mojo before returning to the family business in 2015.

Built in 1905 and in the Porter family since 1946, Porters Plainland Hotel is now in its third generation of family management, headed up by Mel and her brother Michael. Located in the Lockyer Valley growth corridor just an hour’s drive west of Brisbane, the Hotel is now a thriving regional hotel with a team of 130+. The Hotel features a 17-room motel, function rooms, large food & beverage offering, bars, gaming, TAB and two retail outlets.
